PHILIP ANSELMO Signs Deal To Pen Autobiography

DOWN/ex-PANTERA frontman Philip Anselmo has signed a contract with MetalSucks.net writer and acclaimed true crime author Corey Mitchell to help pen the singer's autobiography. An official press release on the matter is expected next week.

Anselmo was recently interviewed for the 200th issue of U.K.'s Metal Hammer magazine, which coincided with the five-year anniversary of "Dimebag" Darrell Abbott's (PANTERA, DAMAGEPLAN) passing. When asked if he feels he's been portrayed fairly in the wake of PANTERA's break-up, Anselmo said, "If someone's formed an opinion about me, it's a vicarious opinion and they don't know me personally, so I always say that you can't form an opinion about somebody through the black-and-white words in glossy, overpriced magazines.

Lil Wayne Sentencing Is Postponed Again

Eventually, the Rolling Stone cover line “Lil Wayne Goes to Jail” will be correct, but not today. On Tuesday a court spokesman in Manhattan told The Associated Press that sentencing for the rapper Lil Wayne had been postponed because of a basement fire at a courthouse.

Lil Wayne, whose real name is Dwayne Carter, was to be sentenced in State Supreme Court on charges stemming from a July 2007 incident in which a loaded .40-caliber semiautomatic gun was found on his tour bus. (He pleaded guilty to attempted criminal possession of a weapon in October.) The hip-hop star was originally scheduled to be sentenced in February, but received a postponement so he could undergo a dental procedure.
A new sentencing date was not immediately given.

50 Cent Facing Lawsuit Due To Rick Ross-Related Sex Tape Leak

When rapper 50 Cent waged war against fellow rapper Rick Ross in early 2009 he tried a number of different tactics to win the feud, but it looks like he may be sued over one of them.

At one point during the rapper’s feud 50 Cent leaked a video of Rick Ross’ baby mother, Lastonia Leviston, in a sex tape. The video was then edited to include commentary by 50 Cent’s Pimpin’ Curly persona.

AllHipHop.com reports that Leviston is now suing 50 Cent for his use of the tape. Leviston claims she suffered “emotional distress” as a result of the video being leaked and that 50 Cent didn’t receive the proper permission to use the tape.

METHODS OF MAYHEM's 'A Public Disservice Announcement' Due In May

It wasn't logical but it made complete sense. Tommy Lee has rocked every continent multiple times, he's sold millions of records with MÖTLEY CRÜE and on his own; he's done everything a musician dreams of doing. Except this: he'd never made a record with the entire world. "This really was one of the most incredible experiences I've had making a record, other than the first time I made a record — because there's nothing quite like popping your cherry!" Tommy says. "This record was the craziest thing ever. Parts were sent in from all over the world by people wanting to participate in the first once-in-a-lifetime global collaboration. It was insane dude!"

The result is the second METHODS OF MAYHEM album, "A Public Disservice Announcement", the first truly collaborative effort an artist of Tommy's magnitude has ever dared to attempt. The concept came easy, the execution did not — it took time, technology, patience and dedication. The first step was to set the parameters. Tommy and his team, including producer Scott Humphrey, singer-guitarist J3 and others, wrote and recorded the songs, which ran the gamut from hard rock anthems to ballads to dance tracks.

It now appears that those two dates will be part of a summer tour, according to what a UK rep for the band told Billboard.com

Rehab Show Leaves Cantrell And Kinney 'Disgusted'

ALICE IN CHAINS members JERRY CANTRELL and SEAN KINNEY have blasted the producers of U.S. reality show "CELEBRITY REHAB" for taking advantage of former bassist MIKE STARR and the mother of their late frontman LAYNE STALEY.

The rockers have saluted Starr's efforts to get clean after years of substance abuse, but were appalled when their former bandmate's rehab stint became part of Thursday night's (18Feb10) VH1 show.

Taped last year (09), the episode featured Starr still struggling to come to terms with the drug-related 2002 death of his friend Staley - and featured an appearance from the late rock star's mother, Nancy McCallum.

Cantrell recently took aim at the show during a radio interview and now Kinney has spoken out, claiming Celebrity Rehab "exploits people at their lowest point." He tells ThePulseofRadio.com, "The sad part is this is like entertainment for people when it's actually a life-and-death situation. I don't think it helps anybody and it makes entertainment out of people's possible death, and that's pathetic and it's stupid. So I don't support that show at all and I think it's pretty disgusting."

Cantrell recently told an Atlanta, Georgia radio station, "That particular show... is a real travesty. (It's a) shame to put people in a really = vulnerable situation like that and make it entertainment for people to see."

Fantasia Receives Life-Threatening Hate Mail

A threatening letter spoiled Fantasia Barrino’s Friday night, but it hasn’t knocked her off stage.

TMZ.com reports that the singer received an alarming letter on February 19 after a performance of The Color Purple at the Pantages Theater in Los Angeles. The message was riddled with racial epithets (including the n-word) and sentiments such as “go back where you came from and die.”

The letter writer said they know Fantasia from her “American Idol” days because they were a Fox security guard during her season.

Theater guards and the Los Angeles Police Department were immediately contacted about the incident, and security has been “beefed up” at the venue. And anything addressed to the singer will be screened.

In the meantime, Fantasia is not letting that hater stop her, "I will not be defeated by one isolated person's hatred,” she told TMZ.

Travis Barker Secures Lil Wayne, Game For Solo Album

Drummer and Blink 182 member Travis Barker has revealed to Spinner.com that he has secured a number of Hip Hop artists for his debut solo album.

When Blink 182 took a break from music several years ago, Barker began to work with a number of artists in the Hip Hop community and his penchant for Hip Hop will be quite clear when his album is released. Game, Beanie Sigel, Lil Wayne, and Rick Ross are just a few of the artists who will be featured on Barker’s solo album.

"I'm not singing or being an emcee or anything," Barker told Spinner.com. "Over the last five years, when Blink wasn't around, I played a lot by myself or did a whole bunch of stuff with just me. Whether I was playing with T.I. or doing whatever, it just opened another world for me."

It is still unclear what Barker’s solo album will be titled or when it will be released.

MTV is officially dead

Twenty-five years ago, MTV was best known for music videos starring Michael Jackson and Madonna. These days, its reigning queen is not a recording star at all but rather Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi, the rowdy party girl from the reality series "Jersey Shore."

So maybe it's not surprising that this week the 29-year-old network bowed to the inevitable and finally scraped the legend "Music Television" off its corporate logo.

The change was a belated acknowledgment of what has been obvious for years: MTV has evolved into a reality channel that occasionally runs programs that have to do with music.

But the shift is significant because, in an era of rapid technological change and microscopic attention spans, how networks identify themselves matters more than ever, experts say.

If you still want to watch a music channel, check out Fuse TV.
